Title: Enhance Your Ability to Work in the US in Bad Economy: Self-Petition
Your Green Card

On November 7, 2008, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department
of Labor reported that non-farm payroll employment fell by 240,000 in
October and the unemployment rate rose from 6.1% to 6.5%.

High-tech companies are laying-off employees because of the bad economy and
universities are facing budget cut and the lack of funding. In this
economic downturn, many international students, scholars and engineers
without green cards frequently encounter a number of problems, including:

1. Many PERM Labor Certification Applications have been terminated or have
failed because the employers laid off foreign workers who were in the
process of applying for a green card, or laid off others that were in
positions similar to the foreign workers. The immigration laws do NOT permit
a U.S. employer to hire a foreign worker if the company laid off employees
in similar employment positions in the last 6 months.

2. More and more employers have stopped hiring new employees, and will not
hire again until later next year.

3. Many companies withdrew their support for green card applications for
their foreign employees.

4. It has become harder and harder to secure a job offer without a green
card.

One of the effective solutions to these problems is to self-petition your
green card application when you are still in school or before your employer
files a PERM Labor Certification Application.

So, the question remains: Are you qualified for a self-petition green card
application? What documents do you need to secure an approval of self-
petitioned green card application? When is the best time to file a self-
petitioned green card application?

Based on some of our recently approved self-petition green card applications

These are just a few examples of our recently approved self-petition green
card applications. In our future news articles, we will continue to provide
further examples to show the types of documents that can be submitted for
self-petition green cards and classifications under which these documents
can be applied.

A few notes on the key advantages of self-petition green cards:

(1) Since green card applications do NOT depend on employers, your
applications will NOT be affected even if you were laid-off and changed
employers during the process.

(2) Since you petition for yourself, your decision to start a green card
application can be much faster as a result of avoiding the wait time for
employer’s sponsorship. The process of your green card application is your
own decision that can be made much faster than a company decision.

(3) Self-petition applications often result in a more rapid approval and
receipt of green cards than employer-sponsored green card applications.
